OOC: This is the official thread for the first event that I've been selling for such a very long time. It officially starts on the 16th of June, however I could be persuaded to put it back at this point if enough people can't participate. This is a relatively long intro, so feel free to skip to the summary at the end if that puts you off.

Here's the scenario: News reports have begun flooding in from all over the globe. Robotic monsters have been sighted in almost every capital city, swarming through the streets and smashing buildings. But they are just a distraction, for as the robots tackle military forces across the world, dozens of world leaders are held captive, as well as all of the world's UN representatives who are being held in the UN building.
Within half an hour the robots have set up defensive perimeters outside of palaces, parliaments and leaders residences, and have most of the worlds leaders captive. Then the news broadcast stops, and a man's face appears on television screens across the world, a face lined with age, looking out on the world with eyes that gleam with a metallic shine.
"I am the Mechanist," says the man in a booming voice, with an electronic twang. "The world belongs to me now. The old leaders were too weak. Soon the world will be mine, but I will not settle for it as is, full of hatred, war and death. I will destroy this old world, and all its corrupt governments, and in its place found a new world, a better world. A paradise, founded on the strength of my machines. All who join me now, and help me to destroy the old government, and its guard dogs, the police and military, shall have a privileged place in the better world I will create. All who resist will be crushed under the feet of my robot soldiers."
The man smiles at the screen, with tight lips, then the image disappears and is replaced by the image of a reporter smoking, while waiting for the image to come back.

A roar seems to sound out across Nexus City. Although the robots have not yet approached the city, it is wasted within a day. Mobs of thousands of people loot the shops, break into houses, and try to grab as much as they can. The army base and police stations button down under a constant barrage of bottles, rocks and the occasional burst of energy. Sandbags surround the army base, with snipers in towers and machine gun nests on the ground and soldiers walk around all night with night vision goggles.
Meanwhile most police stations are abandoned. The police who do not run instead fortify a group of six stations in the downtown region, taking whatever weapon they can with them, and barricading doors and windows, hiding behind them with whoever will stand with them. Only a few officers are brave enough to leave the stations, and most are quickly gunned down.
Meanwhile, the streets have become a chaotic battleground. The prisons have been broken into, the guards scattering and the most dangerous people in Nexus City wander through the streets in stolen clothes, brandishing stolen weapons. Meanwhile tanks roll through the streets, along with jeeps full of soldiers.
Meanwhile a highly destructive battle is being wrought between the superheroes and villains of Nexus, who no longer have any reason to bother with moderation. Casualties on both sides are high, and even among the most virtuous of heroes, a new code has been born: kill those who would kill others.

Two days after the Mechanist's ultimatum, the city is a ruin. Half the citizens sit in their hallways with rifles to protect their homes from the other half. Most of the cities windows have been smashed, and no one, super-powered or normal, has gotten much sleep.
Then in the early morning there are reports of strange shapes in the water. The remainder of the media reports on the strange spherical objects that seem to float on the surface of the bay. There are five spotted, each one easily three metres across.
The whole city seems to gasp in horror, as the spheres slowly rise from the water, coming closer to land, revealing gargantuan humanoid robots, bay water flowing down their sides like waterfalls. With a flash of ruby light the giants incinerate the remainder of Nexus' media, arranged upon the docks. But behind them navy ships, which were following the occurrence begin to fire their giant guns at the robots, each standing over ten stories tall. When the massive shells hit, they throw the robots to the ground, but they get up again.
The navy doesn't know that a master villain in Nexus has taken the Mechanist at his word, and sent his own army of genetically modified monsters at the ships. Hundreds of sleek, semi intelligent creatures dart through the water from the mysterious scientists labs on a small island near the mouth of the bay, while thousands more are sent across to the city itself by helicopter. However the fiend is well aware that most his creatures cannot tell the difference between friend and food.
Meanwhile a horde of man-sized robots begins to attack Nexus from the mainland, storming through the suburbs, and surrounding the military base. There are several types of robot present, including a numbers with chainsaw like blades where a human would have hands.

Summary: Monsters and robots have attacked Nexus from all sides, allying themselves with the cities super villains, criminals and a scared populace, as well the few who want to make a better world.
On the other side, the military and police, are under siege, and the navy, air force, superheroes and a small group of normal people are attempting to dispel the invaders, and return order to Nexus City.
The city is currently pretty badly ruined, and it will likely get worse. Players can choose to use NPCs instead of their ordinary character, but NPCs can also be fought and killed here, including those on the list.

If the bad guys win, they will take over the city. Winning is determined by posting quality and quality of strategies.
In order to minimise the effects of losing good guys should attempt to destroy the lab producing monstrosities and bad guys should attempt to destroy the army base.
